يتناول الكتاب مرحلة هامة من تاريخ الفلسفة ألا وهي الفلسفة الأوروبية في العصر الوسيط وقد استهل الكاتب كتابة بمقدمة أجلى فيها المراحل التي مرت بها الفلسفة الأوروبية في العصر الوسيط والتي عرفت آنذاك باسم "الفلسفة المدرسية". وقد قسم الكتاب إلى أبواب وفصول عرضت الملامح التي تألفت منها تلك المرحلة الجذرية من تاريخ الفلسفة فتناول في الباب الأول الأعلام الفلسفية الرائدة والمميزة لتلك الفترة وتطرق في الباب الثاني إلى العصر الممتد من النهضة التي بعثها شارلمان في الربع الأخير من القرن الثامن إلى نهاية القرن الثاني عشر وما أسم به هذا العصر من ازدهار للحركة العلمية ثم انتقل الكتاب بعد ذلك للحديث عن انفصال المدارس عن السلطة الأسقفية والثورة على المعاني المجردة والنزوع إلى الواقع التجريبي. |
